Once more, Isidore’s examples  follow a line of association that would appear to so deeply ingrained as to be reflexive.  Here again his examples moved from (i) the blind violence of battle-rage, to (ii) escape and death and (ii) the degradation of the enslaved, even after manumission.

His last example comes from Persius’ sneering comment on those freed by manumissio per vindictani.
